They say that dog bites man is nothing special, but man bites dog, now that’s news! I just read that the Bush administration’s nominee to head the Department of Homeland Security, Bernard Kerik, has withdrawn his name from consideration because of questions regarding the immigration status of the nanny he hired. This sort of thing has happened to various nominees in the past, but this is the first time that I know of that a male nominee has met this fate.
This is just ridiculous! This whole nanny issue, while embarassing to those involved, in none of the cases was it truly relevant to the job. But now Bush and the Republicans are having a taste of their own medicine because they have raised the public piety bar so high that now their own nominees are hanging from it. They’ve been hoist by their own petard.
Ironically, they were willing to defend all of the money Kerik made on stock options from Taser International, a pretty strong potential conflict of interest. But a little insignificant nanny thing sinks the ship! Maybe now that a man has been sunk by nannygate they’ll stop this nonsense which is keeping a lot of good people from even considering work in the public sector.
One reply on “Nannygate Bites Kerik In Ass!”
Hmm, it seems that a lot of nasty skeletons have fallen out of Kerik’s closet! I still wonder though if affairs, possible mob connections, etc.., would have been enough to derail his nomination in the absence of the nanny thing.
