  • Erin, the aforementioned British lady, said that Americans are more willing to do volunteer work than Brits. Encouraging words! #CGLA #

Thanks for cleaning our office this weekend! This kind act of volunteerism means more than you know.

Your observation of the difference in volunteering between USA and Great Britian is steeped in history. Alexis de Tocqueville wrote about it in 1834 in Democracy in America: “Americans of all ages, all conditions, and all dispositions constantly form (volunteer) associations. *** The English often perform great things singly, whereas Americans form associations for the smallest undertakings. *** Whereever at the head of some new undertaking you see the government in France, or a man of rank in England, in the United States you will be sure find a (volunteer) association.”

A big thanks to your dad too!

Best, Rob Acton
