Not much commentary here. I just found it interesting that two men who took a stand, each in his own way, against his own people for the sake of what was right have recently passed beyond this world. Maybe just a coincidence, maybe not. So without further comment here are the links to stories that speak for themselves.

There are a lot of out here who would say that 東せんせい took a stand FOR the people of Japan, rather than against him.
He actually had a lot of support among the ordinary people, it was only slime minorities and a few ‘vested interests’ that went against him.
Everybody in Japan knows what happened (as in they know the version of events yjat you will read in western history books, rather than Chinese history books), but people really don’t like talking about it. It’s quiet acceptance rather than denial or ignorance.
Unfortunately, as in every country, the nationalist are te ones who get in the papers and on TV because they shout the loudest.
The way that Thompson has been treated and forgotten is disgraceful though, he should have a statue in Arlington and an info mersial during the superbowl telling the world what he did and what he saw.
His story should be in the Vietnam section of every highschool text book book in the US.
