It’s been a melancholy Monday, but I’ve been having fun reading the yuri romance manga, Girlfriends, on JManga. The story really tugs on the heart strings with all its might, but I’m a sucker for unrequited/forbidden love stories.
I think I’ve been feeling a little down because this will be the first year that my wife is not joining us for Anime Central. Just got our badges in the mail today minus one for her and one for our oldest daughter. My wife has never really been into anime or manga and definitely not cosplay. Sometimes I wish I had a girlfriend that I could share these things with along with a love for sometimes sappy love stories. It’d be great to have someone to sing Japanese anime songs with badly and dance to dub step music that I either love or hate all in the same mix. And someone I could hang out with whether cosplaying Roger Smith in  a double breasted suit, or a Japanese schoolgirl in a miniskirt two inches too short.
But with all of that, I’m not really interested in having an affair with anyone. I actually have a friend who likes a lot of these things too. Sadly, she’s kind of gone off the deep end lately, so I doubt she’ll be coming out to ACen again anytime soon. Of course it’d be fun to hang out with dudes too, but honestly, I’ve always preferred hanging out with women. They’re just so much more interesting and more fun to look at!
Software upgrades are often fraught with unforeseen consequences. Upgrading my Mac to OS X Lion had the unintended consequence of making my Windows 7 Bootcamp partition unbootable. After searching for a solution on the web and finding none but to start all over, I decided to move ahead with the Constellation PC building project sooner rather than later. My old XP box, Defiant, was becoming increasingly unstable probably due to a dying video card, so it made sense to build a new box.
Using my baseline specs spreadsheet I headed off to Microcenter this morning with my wife to do some shopping. It all went much better than expected. I got most of what I wanted for less than my base estimates and had a great sales person helping me out. I’ve always gotten great service at Microcenter, which keeps me coming back.
No real problems assembling the parts, the real challenge would come with needing to install the Windows 7 upgrade version from the defunct Mac installation onto a clean hard drive. Some searching lead me to the upgrade over the upgrade technique. Basically you do a full installation from the install DVD then when it asks for the product key, leave that blank and uncheck the Activate box. Clicking Next takes you to the Windows 7 desktop. Once at the desktop, start up Setup.exe on the installation DVD again and this time pick Upgrade install. It upgrades over itself and you can pretty much complete a normal installation from there.
I still have a lot of file restore work to do, but Constellation is running well and I’m looking forward to a lot of work and play with my new ship!

When Willam Belli was disqualified from RuPaul’s Drag Race last week, I can’t say I was all that upset. While very pretty and talented, I just wasn’t a Willam fan. But, since that time my opinion of her has risen considerably. While hunting about for information on just why she was DQ’d in the first place, I happened upon a music video she stars in with drag queens Detox, and Vicky Vox, that spoofs the anti-gay stance of the Chick-fil A restaurant chain.
There’s only one Chick-fil A in downtown Chicago that I know about, referred to here with a call to boycott it, and I’ve never eaten there. But I certainly won’t be going there now. As a Christian myself, I’m really tired of these so-called Far Right Christian groups and organizations doing hateful things and then claiming it’s all in the name of Jesus. The Jesus I know would be the last person to hate gay people. Heck, he’d probably be hanging out with drag queens today, just as he kept company with the outcasts of the world the last time he walked the Earth.

At last the big day is here! Big because it means my phone will stop ringing off the hook with election calls. What a waste! I keep getting calls for Republican candidates that there is no chance in Hell I’m going to vote for. Seriously, there are probably only 5 Republicans on my whole block.
This will also be the first election my oldest daughter will vote in. I hope she’ll actually do it. We’ve already done all we can, so now it’s up to her. As a young woman, I think that she has an even bigger stake in this election cycle given the virtually misogynistic statements coming from the GOP candidates and a whole raft of restrictive laws that have been proposed or introduced to Congress. WTF?! Has the GOP lost it’s mind? Sure seems like it. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.
