PSP Porn Project

Another Monday has rolled around, so what better thing to kick off the new week than a little piece about PSP porn…ugh not exactly. I was looking at the web logs over the weekend and noticed a bunch of searches for PSP porn. Of course, people searching for porn or pr0n on the internet is nothing new, but it did get me thinking about movies on the PSP so I checked Sony’s list of movies available in the UMD format and from that put up a new site, PSPStuffnJunk. This may not satisfy people looking for PSP porn movies, but it might make it a little easier to find a few titles on the internet. This first list features movies that mostly feature what one might call “babes in action”. It really isn’t finished yet, and later I’ll add some other genres. Enjoy! Here’s that link again, PSPStuffnJunk.

BTW, this totally begs the question of whether UMD really has any future in light of the increasing size of memory sticks and greater availability of downloadable movies and television shows.

Rusting Dreams

I saw someone’s dream today. It was a ’57 Chevy parked on the street. It was in terrible shape with faded paint, rust, and a shattered windshield. I wondered why anyone would keep it around? It wasn’t abandoned because I think I’ve seen it parked in other places from time to time. So I concluded that someone still held out the hope of restoring it. That rusting hulk was probably a placeholder for someone’s dream. I wonder what rusting hulks are placeholders for my dreams.

Of Spiked Heels And Cell Phones

Just another morning full of thoughts as I approached work today, suddenly brightened up by the sight of an attractive black woman with nice legs and really high spikes. As I got closer, I also noticed that she was very short and began to wonder if shorter women tended to wear higher spiked heels. Since I don’t generally like to get too close to people, I adjusted my course to give her plenty of room. A good thing too, because she started wobbling back and forth right into my path. My first guess was that she was either drunk or high, then I noticed the cell phone seemingly glued to the right side of her head. She was so engaged in conversation that I’m not really sure she even saw me there as we nearly collided, but it did give me a chance to see that she had a pretty face as well! 🙂

So I guess today’s lesson is, high spikes and cell phones don’t mix!

Open Source Support Network

Over on Slashdot today, a minor flame war has erupted over whose linux distribution is better in Will Novell’s Desktop Linux Catch On. The usual assertions that you need a company to provide full support behind a distribution, like Redhat or Novell, have been raised. And in particular, some felt that Ubuntu had no chance because it doesn’t have some big sponsoring company or an enterprise edition with paid support. This got me to thinking that just having internet forums and IRC channels is not going to be enough for open source software support if it is to get into the hands of “ordinary” people and gain mindshare from Windows and its applications. There really needs to be an Open Source Support Network.

The Open Source Support Network would consist of volunteers around the world who would take shifts fielding email, instant messages, and (gasp!) phone calls from people who need help with open source applications and Linux. This would essentially be a free, worldwide call center that Jane, Joe, Huang, and Hakim User could call to get help with OpenOffice, Linux, and other open source apps.

Of course, talk is cheap and such an undertaking would first require a well thought out organizational structure and a deep enough pool of knowledgeable volunteers to operate 24/7/365, and of course, money. But I don’t really think it would be too much beyond the kind of effort that has gone into the Mozilla, and Apache foundations to name a couple. Such a support organization could finally put to rest the often raised criticism that nobody is really supporting open source software by giving people a number to call when they need help. And as a bonus, the building of such a support network would probably advance the art of customer technical support itself which would benefit everyone.

A guy can dream, right?

TiVo and the Revolution, Nintendo that is…

Months ago, when Nintendo unveiled the controller for their upcoming Revolution video game console, I was all WTF! The thing looked like a remote control, which Nintendo hoped would lower the barrier to video games that many nongamers feel when confronted by the typical video game controller. But now I think I’ve seen in real life that this may have more legs than conventional wisdom might think.

A few days ago, my TiVo box received a major upgrade that, among other things, included some relatively simple games. The games were controlled using the directional pad and a few buttons on the TiVo remote. The kids and I had a lot of fun with these, my only complaint being that the games ran a little slow, but as betas, I would guess they will get faster with time once they’re optimized. In any case, I had clear empirical evidence that this remote as video game controller could really work. The kids didn’t care one bit that the controller was a remote and everyone in the house knows how to use that. Even WillowBrow, who I don’t think I’ve ever seen with a game controller in her hands, could get into this and with Wordsmith on the TiVo, I’m sure she will eventually.

I can’t help but wonder if games on the TiVo got the green light after all of the buzz Nintendo stirred up with the new Revolution controller. Afterall, if Nintendo thinks games can be controlled with a remote style controller, then there must be something to it. I wonder if someday we’ll see a TiVo box that can play Revolution games!

Sickday Ramen

Sickdays always sneak up on me in the morning. I woke up from a strange dream that involved an unannounced tour of Whitney Houston’s and Bobby Brown’s house feeling totally out of it. Most of the time, I just need another half day of sleep to get over these things, but I really hate the feeling of weakness and helplessness. Days off are nice, but sickdays generally are teh suck. Strangely, I had the feeling at the end that it could all be summed up in a bowl of ramen. What that means in words, I haven’t the faintest clue.

Spring! Up to the Butt!

After a weekend’s dusting of cold wet March snow, according to the prevailing hemlines, spring is coming back to Chicago. The first sign was a short-skirted, high-healed woman who was nearly hit by traffic crossing Congress. She was a bit too into her coffee and not enough into the traffic signals. Well, at least it gave me a legitimate reason to honk my horn.

The second sign came, after I dropped my wife off, in the form of a tall blonde woman with a black skirt that went right up to her butt. Nothing casual or accidental about that. The forecast is for warming temperatures the rest of the week, but I can see that the hemlines are already rising. w00T! Spring is coming! I should find something short for WillowBrow. 😉

2K Games Family Guy Game

GamesIndustry.biz is reporting that 2K Games has secured the rights to produce a video game based on the Family Guy TV series. The history of movie and TV licensed video games is not great, but I hope they at least have a good Lois mini-game! I like where this is goin’! Giggidy, giggidy, gig-gi-dy!

Doll Festival Today

Today, March 3rd, is Hina Matsuri (ひなまつり), the Japanese Doll Festival. Last year I forgot all about it, but this year I put it on my calendar and I’m looking forward to some family activities that celebrate girls, who comprise half of our family! We’re gonna get out all of the American Girl dolls and watch Kiki’s Delivery Service and maybe one of the Card Captor Sakura movies. Sushi will be on the menu tonight and sake for me, hee hee! Next year maybe I’ll get or make some kimonos for those dolls.

Earth to Bush!

It seems that President Bush is really out of touch with the American people right now. I woke up this morning to the headline on Yahoo!, Bush Defends India Job Outsourcing. Now let me get this straight, we can’t have American companies or our own government control seaports on American soil, and we can’t have Americans here at home get good tech jobs either. It seems that if you’re American these days you’re just screwed. Of course, if you’re not American and we don’t like your government, we’ll invade you and kill tens of thousands of people for no good reason. Sigh… I don’t have anything against the Indians in particular. They’re just taking advantage of the opportunities coming their way, which is smart. But I would like a more pro-American president whose policies don’t have to involve starting wars on trumped up “evidence” and then calling it patriotism.

PSP Homebrew Flash Player

It looks like the PSP homebrew community has once again taken things into their own hands and come up with something great, a flash player for the PSP! Now this only works on PSPs using firmware version 1.5, but this tells me without a doubt that the PSP can support flash, so why isn’t Sony doing this? I can only speculate that Sony doesn’t want competition from free flash games, for which they would not get a royalty. Game royalties are how console manufacturers make money since they generally sell the console hardware at a loss to build marketshare. I’m no expert, but I think Sony has more to fear from people buying iPods and DS’s than people playing flash games on the PSP. Supporting flash would add more value and, ahem, coolness, to the PSP which should ultimately sell more units. More units of course mean more people likely to buy PSP games. Free flash games could potentially serve as great game demo vehicles as well.

Shoujo Manga Confession

I am not the target demographic of shoujo manga! You will not pass me on the street and even suspect that I have 12 volumes of Fruits Basket on my bookshelf, am a huge CLAMP fan, and have just fallen in love with Kare Kano. No, you’re more likely to clutch your purse more tightly, than think that I’m into any of that… So it feels a little embarassing to whip out Kare Kano for a quick read at McDonalds. Most people around don’t have a clue as to what it is, but the often soft girlish covers are definitely not on the books that I would be expected to be reading.

But I make no apologies! I like what I like and I don’t care that I’m too old, or the wrong gender or ethnicity to be liking these things. That just doesn’t matter to me, especially if it gets in the way of having fun. There are a lot of good things in this life and I refuse to let artificial barriers get in the way of enjoying them. And I’ve always loved a good story and great characters I can care about, whether they are flying in starships from star to star or working up the courage to confess their love in high school. Story is what it’s all about.

Silly Blogger!

Silly Rabbit! Blogging’s not for a living! Cnet is reporting that full-time blogger Jason Kottke has given up his attempt to make a living blogging. Full-time and blog simply do not go together. Blogging is more often than not that thing that goes on at work while you’re supposed to be, well, working! Nevertheless, as an empiricist by training and nature, I admire the guy for trying.

As for me, I blog purely for the fun of it, and if it leads to world domination, well so be it.
